North Carolina State University (for more information click here). Supported by: The National Science Foundation, NCSU Genetics and Genomics Academy, and NC Plant Science Initiative

Our preprint An improved plant toolset for high-throughput recombineering is out in Bioarchives   Patrick’s Ribo-seq data analysis and quality assessment RiboStreasmR web tool is out in BMC Genomics.   Congratulations to Jose on being named a 2018 Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science. This is his fifth year in a row to be included in this prestigious list.     Our Plants4Kids Darwin Day demo on November 10th at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences had lots of visitors of all ages. The headcount for the museum on that day was 4186 guests, and it definitely felt like many of them stopped by our booth. All 20 Plants 4Kids volunteers (Alonso-Stepanova lab members, as well as friends and family) kept very busy for the entire 8 hours sharing their passion for plants and biology research!   Congratulations to Anna on her election as a new member of the North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee.   Our Developmental Cell paper on local auxin biosynthesis is out!   New set of outreach videos. If you are looking for educational videos to learn the basics of Machine Learning and Neural Networks, check out these videos by a 13-year-old boy. Full disclosure: he is the son of the PIs. (Check his YouTube channel for  more educational videos)   Serina and Anna’s review “A Plant Biologist’s Toolbox to Study Translation.” is out in Frontiers in Plant Science. Hao is very excited to try direct RNA-Seq with the new MinION.   Anna’s NSF CAREER proposal was chosen for funding.    CAREER: Tailoring hormone responses in plants via synthetic signal integration devices”. Anna wins NCSU photography contest.    Anna wins the first place in the NCSU photography  “Envisioning Research Contest” with her image of a germinated Arabidopsis seed next to the seedling that grew out of that seed.   Plantae Blog.    Our Plants4Kids outreach activities and history were highlighted in a Plantae blog. We had a busy summer of research and conferences at the Alonso-Stepanova lab. Anna gave talks at the Ethylene 2018 meeting in Chania, Greece and the ICAR 2018 in Turku, Finland. Pathy gave a lightning talk and presented a poster at the 2018 ASPB meeting in Montreal, Canada Javier gave a talk and presented a poster at the ICAR 2018 in Turku, Finland and a poster at the Molecular Biology (RBMP) meeting in Salamanca, Spain. Jose gave talks at the Ethylene 2018 meeting in Chania, Greece; Leibniz Plant Biochemistry Symposium 2018 in Halle, Germany; the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists in Sapporo, Japan, and the  Plant Molecular Biology (RBMP) meeting in Salamanca, Spain. Michelle presented her poster at the Annual NC State University Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium in Raleigh, NC. David presented his poster at the NCSU CALS Graduate Student Poster Symposium in Raleigh, NC     .                   .
